Terms
Updated 2026-08-27These are the terms for using RawRoom at rawroom.app and in the RawRoom apps for Mac and iPhone, and for buying a licence. They are written in plain English on purpose. They are still the agreement, so it is worth reading them once.
Who you are contracting with
RawRoom is made and sold by Ayres Capital Enterprises LTD., a corporation incorporated in Ontario, Canada, based in Toronto. In these terms "we" and "us" mean that company. It is a one-person company: Andrew Ayres builds RawRoom and answers your email himself. You can reach us at hello@rawroom.app.
"You" means the person using RawRoom. If you are using it for an employer or a client, you are confirming you may agree to these terms on their behalf.
What RawRoom is
RawRoom is a raw photo editor that runs in a browser tab. Decoding, editing and export all happen on your own device, on your own hardware. The Mac and iPhone apps are free shells around the same editor. They sell nothing, and signing in restores whatever your account already owns from a purchase made on the web.
The free trial
Opening the editor, adjusting a photo, trying film looks and comparing against the original all work with no account at all.
Any export requires an account. The account is an email address and a one-time sign-in link. There is no password and no card. Creating the account starts your trial: 30 days and 50 exports, whichever runs out first. Every export counts against that pool, whether it is a JPEG, a PNG, a WebP or a full-size render from a raw file.
One trial per email address. It starts when the account is created, and it does not restart. When the 30 days are up or the 50 exports are used, exporting needs a purchase. Editing does not: the editor and the five starter film looks keep working in every state, including after the trial has ended.
What you can buy
Everything is a one-time purchase in US dollars. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
- RawRoom Develop, $19.99. Unlimited export, on your devices, with no trial counter.
- C-41 Pack, $9.99. The colour film renderings.
- Grainhouse Pack, $9.99. The black-and-white renderings and the grain engine.
- RawRoom Kit, $29.99. Develop plus both packs, as a single purchase.
Tax may be added at checkout depending on where you are. We are the merchant of record and the tax is calculated and collected at that point. Prices can change for future buyers; a change never alters a purchase you have already made.
What the licence gives you
A purchase gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual licence to use RawRoom, for your own work, including commercial photography. You keep every right in your photographs and in the files you export. We claim nothing in them.
- It attaches to your email. The licence is tied to the address you check out with. Sign in with that address on any device and it comes back.
- Licence keys activate on up to three devices. A licence key is the offline route, useful when the checkout email and your sign-in email differ. Signing in has no device limit. If three is not enough for how you work, email us and we will raise it.
- It does not expire. What you bought keeps working. It is not rented and it is not revoked because you stopped paying, because there is nothing to keep paying.
- App updates are included for two years from your purchase date. Every licence records that date. RawRoom does not currently switch anything off when the two years pass, and if that ever changes, the version you already have keeps running.
- A pack includes every film stock ever added to that pack. There is no time limit on pack contents. Buying C-41 today means the stocks added to C-41 next year are yours too.
If RawRoom's pricing or packaging changes later, the change applies to new purchases. It does not take away something an existing licence already granted.
What the licence does not give you
- Reselling, renting, sublicensing or transferring a licence or a licence key, including sharing a key with people outside your household or company.
- Extracting the film pack colour tables and redistributing them, or building them into another product.
- Working around the export gate, the trial counter, or the entitlement checks, or helping others do it.
- Removing copyright, licence or attribution notices from anything we ship.
- Using the RawRoom name or logo in a way that suggests we made, endorsed or approved something we did not.
Open-source rights are not restricted by any of this. RawRoom decodes raw files with LibRaw, which is used under the LGPL-2.1 and ships as a separate, replaceable module you are free to substitute with your own build. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under that licence or under any other open-source licence covering code we ship. The full notices are on the licences page. You also keep whatever rights to reverse engineer applicable law gives you and does not let us contract away.
Your account
Sign-in is a one-time link sent to your email. The link is valid for 30 minutes and works once. A session lasts 180 days before you sign in again. Anyone with access to your email inbox can sign in as you, so keep that inbox secure. To stop the sign-in form being used to spam an inbox, we limit link requests to five per email address per hour and twenty per IP address per hour.
Tell us if you think someone else is using your account. Ask us and we will delete the account and everything in it.
Acceptable use
Use RawRoom for lawful work on photographs you have the right to edit. Do not attack, overload or probe the service, do not script bulk requests against it, and do not use it to produce material that is illegal where you are. You are responsible for the images you open and for what you do with what you export.
Your photos, and the role we do not have
Your photographs are never uploaded. RawRoom reads a file that is already on your machine, decodes it there, and writes the export there. We never receive a copy, we cannot see your images, and we cannot recover a file or an edit for you. That means there is no data-processing arrangement to describe here for your image content: we are not processing it, because we never hold it. Keep your own originals and your own backups.
What does cross the network is short and listed in full on the privacy page: your sign-in email, a licence check, a count of trial exports, the film packs you own, and a cookieless page count. Those terms are the accurate description and these terms do not widen them.
Availability and change
RawRoom is a website, and websites go down. We do not promise uninterrupted service. RawRoom needs a browser feature called cross-origin isolation to thread the raw decoder; it is happiest in desktop Chrome and Edge, and it runs in Safari and Firefox with lower ceilings on very large files. The roadmap on the home page describes what is being built. It is a statement of intent, not a delivery date, and nothing on it is part of what you are buying today.
Refunds
All sales are final. The free trial is how you decide before you pay. The full policy, including how a refund affects your licence, is on the refunds page, and it forms part of these terms.
No warranty
RawRoom is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every camera or browser, or fit for a particular purpose, and we disclaim the implied warranties the law would otherwise read in. Raw decoding depends on third-party code and on your own hardware and browser, and a given file may not open.
Some places, Ontario included, give consumers rights that cannot be waived. Nothing here removes a right you have under consumer protection law that we are not allowed to contract out of.
Limits on liability
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost profits or lost business, or for lost or damaged files, however that loss arises. Our total liability to you for any claim connected with RawRoom is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the licence the claim concerns. Where the law does not allow that limit, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law does allow. This does not limit liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
If the licence or the service ends
You can stop using RawRoom at any time. We may suspend or end a licence if it is being resold or shared in breach of these terms, or if a payment is reversed by a chargeback.
One honest limitation. A licence is checked by a signed token that a device renews from our server, so a licence depends on the service continuing to exist. If RawRoom is ever shut down, we will say so in advance rather than let it stop quietly, and we will not pretend a licence can outlive the service that verifies it.
Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. The date at the top always says when they last changed, and a material change will be described on this page rather than slipped in. Changes apply from the day they are posted, to your continued use of RawRoom. They do not reach backwards to reduce what a licence you have already bought gave you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not remove the protections of your own local law where that law says it cannot be displaced.
If a court decides part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest stays in force. These terms, the refunds page and the privacy page are the whole agreement between us about RawRoom.
